My Mom

As Mother's Day has come and gone, it left me with plenty of time for reflection. My sister inspired me to reflect even more when she posted a blog on our mom. I thought I should do the same and share a list of things that remind me of her.
1. The movies. My mom loved going to the movies. Like my sister mentioned, she loved the popcorn at the movies. Her idea of dinner and a movie was to buy a big bucket of popcorn and eat it for dinner while we watched a movie. It seemed like my mom was always taking us to the movies.
2. Paul Simon. It's funny that my sister mentions Suzy Bogguss. I mostly remember listening to "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover", "Still Crazy After All These Years", and "Me and Julio Down by the School Yard". I think those were the only two tapes in her car.
3. Peanut M&Ms. My mom loved them. Whenever we were going for a car trip (a long car trip for our family meant driving for 2 hours), my mom would buy some Peanut M&Ms at the gas station on the way out of town.
4. Overalls. When overalls became the cool thing to wear when I was in junior high and high school (what were we thinking--they only succeeded in making us look twice as big!), my mom decided to try them out. She actually started a trend amongst the mother's of my friends. Before we knew it, other moms were wearing them. Lucky for all of us, we've all donated our overalls to the D.I. by now.
5. My kids. I often think of my mom as I watch my children play and do all the things kids do. I finally understand the love that she had for us, because I have that same love for my own children. She loved me and my sister very much. I know she would be happy with the way we have both chosen to live our lives.
6. The temple. Above everything else, what I remember most about my mom was her love of the gospel and her desire for my sister and I to be married in the temple.
I love my mom! Like Alyssa said, she was the best mom ever!

I love reading about your Mom, and I can remember all the stories that you shared with me when we lived in Higginson together. I just know that your Mom is so proud of you and Alyssa and the women you have become.

Ames,
Funny that you mentioned Paul Simon because I almost put him down. Please don't forget "Mother and Child Reunion".
Love,
Alyssa

Like I mentioned on Alyssa's blog...I've never heard much about your mom and it is fun to read some of your memories of her and hear what you learned from her. She really sounds like an amazing woman.

PS Seriously what were we thinking about the whole Overall wearing phase? Yuck! Like anyone could ever look good in a big sack!

What?? I loved the overalls. They were so comfy and we had lots of pockets. Still have mine (4 pairs) just in case the trend comes back and God willing I can ever fit into them again. When I'm about 70, I'm sure they'll be hot!!!! I miss her so very much, each and every day. Love you, Margaret
