Hooked On Phonics Worked for Me!

Tyler is becoming a reader! I bought the Hooked On Phonics Learn to Read Pre-K and the Hooked on Phonics Learn to Read K-2nd grade box sets from Costco over the summer. We worked almost every day on the Pre-K stuff. Tyler already knew the letters and letter sounds, but I figured it was good review, and also good for Susie to get some experience with it. Plus, the system introduced rhyming, beginning sounds, and blending sounds, which he had no experience with. By the time we finished the Pre-K set, he was starting to understand the concept of blending three letters into words. His list of words he can now read is very, very long: hat, cat, dog, fan, etc. Basically everything that can be easily sounded out phonetically. Now we have begun the Kindergarten material--which is completely packed full of those 3-letter words and includes a bunch of beginning reader books that incorporate those phonetic words. Tyler has now read three books! Wow, it is fun to watch kids grow and learn! Especially since I feel like I have actually done something right! Way to go Hooked on Phonics!

I am so glad you posted this! Now I can see what the boxes look like and talk Craig into it. I am pretty sure we are going get it when we have some money. Tyler is a smarty!

I am determined to get this for Christmas or birthday or something in the next year. I loved what I saw of it and it sounds like Tyler is doing awesome with it!
