A friend of mine has cousins living in California who voted Yes on Proposition 8. This is what they woke up to the next morning:
She received an email with this picture where her uncle said,
"Last night 2500 protestors marched up the streets of Santa Monica Blvd towards the Mormon Temple with a huge sign that read "No on H8 (hate)/Stop the Hate" while smaller signs read "Mormon Hate must go." Apparently the irony of the hateful signs against Mormons was lost on those who were screaming against hatred.
The LDS church did not put this proposition on the ballot. They were asked to join with other churches in a broad based coalition to lend support on this issue...
In talking with my friends and fellow church members, I was discouraged by the number of crimes that were committed by those professing to stop the hate and discrimination. Among the crimes on local members here in the South Bay, I heard that bricks had been thrown through windows, cars were tagged with spray paint, others were keyed for having a bumper sticker, hurtful malicious and mean-spirited letters were put on cars, and of course numerous signs were stolen. As part of my support, I put a yard sign in my front yard. The sign was stolen twice. The second time was a full week before the election and I did not replace it.
Now, the persecution has escalated again. Last night, while we slept, our home and car was vandalized. In huge black letters the derogatory term "BIGOT!" was spray painted across our front door and more paint was slashed across our car. Obviously, this is very hurtful and disappointing... Will you please keep all of us here in California in your prayers?"
It is amazing to me how hypocritical of a society we live in. I thought the people committing these hate crimes against people of my faith were supposed to be protesting against hate? Did I miss something? Why is it OK to hate one group of people and not OK to hate another? (By the way, I do not hate anyone!!!)

I saw this on Sarah's blog too and I honestly can't believe it! It makes me so frustrated!!! We had people protesting us as we went to church yesterday. In an effort to keep everyone and their cars protected, they had everyone park in the church parking lot and they had some of the men standing at the entrances to makes sure no one came in. What a joke?! Seriously, these people are insane. What did we do against them? Is it because we don't agree with them? Well, lets see last I checked I don't exactly agree with everything they do either, but you don't see me doing terrorizing them.
That is indeed awful Amy and not right!
It reminds me of what I experienced and saw when I supported Pro Choice, from Pro Lifers. It is not a good feeling and makes you feel very sad about society. But I always told myself that it is only a small group that would act with such disrespect, and kept in my heart that the majority of people are kind, caring, and tolerent.
It is a good time for using the words "Turn the other cheek",and breath and let it go so that the meaness doesn't stain you.
Love,
Megan
