Every year, it is a tradition of Kevin's family to make Danish pastries. It's a recipe that Kevin's dad grew up with (apparently his mom wouldn't give Janae the recipe until they were either engaged or married--I can't remember which one). Well, anyways, they are so delish! Kevin's mom makes the dough. His dad is in charge of rolling out the dough and filling it with the pudding and granola mixture. Then, the kids are each given a responsibility of either brushing egg whites on top, sprinkling chopped nuts over the pastry, or placing the cherries on top. This year we let the grandkids (Jackson, Tyler, and Susie) take the jobs. Last year Tyler and Susie needed quite a bit of supervision, but this year, they mostly did the jobs on their own. Which resulted in 8-9 adults just standing around and watching. Then comes the best part of the tradition: all the pastries must be eaten by the end of the day (if not, they are never as good the next day). We stuffed ourselves with pastries all day long and put on a few pounds each, I'm sure. What a yummy tradition!
