I'm Intrigued...

Has anyone used a glide bike to teach their kids how to balance on a 2-wheeler? The concept seems awesome...the glide bikes teach balance. But I definitely don't want to invest in something that is not worth it. I'm also wondering if I could just take the pedals off a normal bike and have the same results.

Tyler will be turning 6 this summer and still doesn't know how to ride a big kid bike. In fact, he prefers his Big Wheel to his bike with training wheels--the bike we got him for Christmas over 2 years ago. If we still lived in California, I know he would be a pro by now because we rode bikes up and down our cul-de-sac everyday, but our riding accommodations really are not ideal for learning to ride bikes around here.

Or, does anyone just have some good advice on how to teach a child to ride a bike? Please help. Tyler can really be apprehensive sometimes, and I'm afraid it will be a long time before he finally learns to ride a bike.

Ok...first off, this bike is stinking expensive for a little kid bike. With that being said, children of all ages have learned how to balance on regular bikes for centuries. With that being said, the key to getting Tyler to ride his own bike (sans training wheels) is to get Susie a regular bike. If she is riding hers, he'll ride his. That's all I have to say.

I agree with Alyssa and you Amy. The bike is not worth the money. You could take the pedals off a little bike and that would be almost like the same thing as this glide bike. I too think that if Susie learned first, Tyler would be right there behind her wanting to learn. I remember when I was a kid my dad would push me around on a two wheeler on a nice flat grassy area in case I fell, but ultimately I had to suck it up and brave the asphalt (ouch!). But once you get a hang of it there's no turning back!

I have one word for you: SCOOTER. For Brianna's 5th birthday we bought her a Razor Scooter, and after a few tries she figured out how to balance it. She got so good, at the end of summer we decided to take her training wheels off her bike and guess what?! FIRST TRY she took off, and didn't even need her daddy running behind her! The BEST gift we ever gave her. We'll see if Ashley can ride without training wheels this summer at age 4!
