Halloween

October 31, 2012

Halloween seems to be the holiday that never ends! The only reason this bothers me is because I get so tired of all the candy the kids keep bringing home. Oh, and I also get tired of having to help everyone into their costumes multiple times. Especially when we have to style hair each time. We attended the Ward Trunk-or-Treat, the Midwestern Halloween party, Amyah's playgroup Halloween Carnival, the Halloween parties in both Tyler and Susie's classrooms, and of course, Trick-or-Treating around our neighborhood.

It was fun to let the kids carve their own pumpkins this year--this was the first time we let them pretty much do all the carving. Amyah helped gut Tyler and Susie's pumpkins--but only after we bribed her with candy. She was a bit disgusted with the pumpkin guts. :) Then we let her carve the little chunks of pumpkin that were discarded from the jack-o-lanterns.

Tyler was the Amazing Superman. Susie was the most beautiful Cinderella I've ever seen. And Amyah was... well, she kept changing costumes (she was using costumes out of our costume box). But, on Halloween, when she saw Susie getting all dressed as Cinderella, she decided that she had to be Cinderella too. We made due with what we had and pinned her oversized costume to her PJs, then her clothes later that evening.

The girls learned some pretty good tricks for getting extra candy while we Trick-or-Treated. Susie was especially polite. She wished everyone a Happy Halloween and thanked them multiple times. Amyah had to pet every dog on our route, which made all the dog-lovers happy. They really got extra handfuls of candy at many of the homes we visited. Susie even noticed! I think it motivated her to be even more polite. :)
