Spring Training and Lake Pleasant

February 28 - March 2, 2013

Kevin's parents (Grandpa Mark and Grandma Janae) came to visit during the second half of Kevin's break.

We attended a San Francisco Giants spring training game on the first day of their visit.  We got there a couple hours early because we planned on finding the kid's autograph zone at practice before the game started.  The Giant's practice fields weren't laid out the same as other spring training stadiums we've been too.  There was no autograph zone and virtually no access to practice.  We were pretty bummed!  We did watch batting practice on the field and got a few players to throw baseballs up at us.  We could have stayed after the game and waited in the players' parking lot to get autographs.  That's where the employees told us to go for autographs.  I guess we're not die hard enough because we didn't feel like waiting around for who knows how long and getting stuck in traffic.

The next day--Friday--we planned on driving up to Lake Pleasant for target shooting and a picnic.  Kevin and his dad were in the back yard trying to fix the clay pigeon thrower before we left for our activity.  Instead of fixing the clay pigeon thrower, Grandpa Mark ended up getting whacked in the face with the thrower and sliced the tip of his nose open really badly!  So badly it makes me cringe to even write about it.  Kevin, Janae, and Mark headed to the emergency room around 10 in the morning.  After a bunch of problems trying to find the right doctor to stitch up his nose and actually having to transfer to a different hospital, they finally made it home around 6:30 that night.  Everyone felt so bad.  Mark felt bad for ruining our plans.  And, of course, we all felt terrible about his nose.  We did go out to Outback that evening for dinner.  And it was yummy!

The last day--Saturday--we were able to carry out our plans of target shooting and picnicking at Lake Pleasant.  We had a good time target shooting.  It was the first time I ever shot a handgun or a rifle.  I only shot each gun once.  I hit the target with the handgun and actually hit the clay pigeon with the rifle.  I decided after being successful the first time there was no need to keep shooting.  Shooting those guns scared me!  They are so powerful!  And the thought that one pull of the trigger could take someone's life really made my heart race while I was shooting the guns.

After shooting, we headed over to Lake Pleasant for a picnic.  It is a pretty lake!  Much, much bigger than I anticipated.

Couldn't resist skipping rocks in the lake.

Or throwing in big rocks and trying to splash each other. :)
