Michelle (my sister-in-law) has been kindly giving Tyler free swimming lessons every morning for the past three weeks. Sometimes the progress has seemed slow, sometimes Tyler has refused to do what he has been asked, and sometimes he has even reverted a bit. This is no blame to Michelle. Tyler just isn't a fearless child. However, these past couple of days he has really started swimming. I am absolutely amazed. My unsure little boy has finally started swimming. I am so proud of his effort and soooo grateful for Michelle's diligence in teaching him. Today Kevin and I went swimming with the kids in the afternoon and Tyler jumped off the wall many, many times and swam to us. He can swim the width of the swimming pool when his arms and legs are fresh and not worn out. He can swim from the stairs to the middle of the pool, he let Kevin throw him and would swim to the stairs, and we even talked him into jumping off the diving board by himself and swimming to us in the middle of the pool. I love watching him swim. I am in awe of how much he has learned these past three weeks. Michelle has really worked miracles with him. At the start of his swimming lessons Michelle nicknamed him a Starfish. He has now become a Great White Shark according to Aunt Michelle. It is so exciting to see him swimming. And, even better is the fact that we have more than a month of good weather left so we can keep practicing and hopefully get him ready for next summer--I really want to put him on a swim team.
