Tyler graduated from preschool on Wednesday. Graduation really seems silly to me because (at least for Tyler) it really doesn't seem like much of an accomplishment. He's definitely learned some good things at school, but the main reason in going was for the social experiences I wanted him to have there. Having the graduation was fun because of the performances the kids did, but mostly, it would have seemed like a much bigger and more appropriate activity if it had been called the "End of the year preschool program". I guess when I think of graduation I think mainly of the kids wearing graduation caps (which they did) and receiving diplomas (which they did). That was only a small part of what preschool graduation was about. Mostly, this graduation was to show how much the children had learned during the school year. They performed all sorts of songs and each child had a part. Tyler helped out during the letter D song (his favorite of all the songs).
At the end, the teacher had an awesome presentation to share with the audience of the children's artwork. A couple weeks before school was over she played the song, "...and I think to myself, what a wonderful world." After listening to the song, the children painted pictures of what the song was about. She put the pictures in order according to the lyrics in the song because the kids had painted all sorts of things. Some painted "trees of green", others painted "red roses too". There were also "colors of the rainbow" and "friends holding hands". She flipped through the pictures while they played the song and it was so beautiful.
After Tyler received his diploma, we ate cake with all his friends and their parents (who've also become friends with). It was a fun celebration. After it was over, we had a picnic celebration at the park with some friends from preschool. We gave Tyler a graduation present later that day (a brand new Mr. The King "Dinoco" and Mrs. The King). We accidently lost our beloved Dinoco in the temple waiting room during Ryan and Brittney's wedding, so it was a replacement.
So far summer has been filled with activities. We've already gone to the park twice with friends, swam 3 times (we even had a friend over one of those times), Tyler's gone to play at his best friend's house, and the highlight of it all was yesterday morning. Kevin, Tyler, Susie, and I went to see "Up" in 3D at the movie theater. It was a fun, cute, and heart-warming movie. What a fun vacation we've had so far!
