Susie Starts Preschool!

September 7, 2010

Susie started preschool this year. She is attending the same preschool Tyler did 2 years ago. Her teacher is Miss Kathy (we love Miss Kathy!). Susie goes to school at the local elementary school, where they have access to the playground, the gymnasium, the library, and the computer lab. It is a wonderful preschool and totally fits into my preschool philosophy. When Tyler started preschool at the same school, I wasn't so sure about the teacher's philosophy. It seemed like a bit too much play and not enough academics to me. Once he started kindergarten and most fun was removed from his school day, I was so grateful for the fun he had while in preschool. In preschool, they were never forced to sit still (unless they were reading a story or singing a song). They mostly just had fun and learned how to behave in a classroom setting. They were allowed to explore. I was glad he didn't have a year of fun and freedom taken away from him. And, although he didn't learn to read in preschool (I did teach him to read basic 3-letter phonetic words before he started kindergarten), he is ahead by an entire grade level in both reading and math now. I love the preschool now, and I especially love the teacher. She is so warm and friendly. Susie is (mostly) loving school. She's had a couple meltdowns since school has started, but that is due to her dramatic personality. Her class has 11 girls and 4 boys, which is perfect for Susie. We already knew 3 of the girls before starting--they are in our ward at church. And, 1 of the boys is on her soccer team. We are in a carpool with 3 other girls (one from our ward), so before even starting she already was familiar with 6 of the kids in the class. Carpooling has worked out great for her preschool as well. I only drive to and from school and Wednesdays. So nice.

My kiddos are growing up!

Here Susie is, all ready for school, and very excited!
She loves her Twinkle Toes! They have sparkle, bling, and flashing lights!

I have seen my fair share of those sparkly shoes so far this year around my school!
