Our Annual Trip to Grandma & Grandpa's Farm!

Watch out! Picture overload...

Day 1: June 22, 2011
The Drive!

We left early Wednesday morning and arrived just in time for some yummy homemade pizza. The kids were great. Amyah was a bit fussy, but Kevin did a great job managing her and driving all at the same time. I'm a pretty bad road trip mom. I lose all energy and desire to entertain kids. Good thing we have a dad who keeps his spirits high while we are all tired from the drive.

Day 2: June 23, 2011
Wee Golf (and the gift shop, of course)
Shirley Temples at The Log Cabin

Kevin's Day -
Helped move the sprinklers off the field
Moved sprinklers for watering in other fields
Moved tractor attachments to prepare for cutting the field

Amyah and I tagged along with Grandma Megan and the kids when they set off for a round of Wee Golf, a trip to the gift shop, and some scrumptious Shirley Temples. The Shirley Temples were huge!

Day 3: September 24, 2011
Opening Day of Cars 2!
The chicks are starting to hatch!
Hanging out at the farm house (Chinese Checkers & playing w/dogs)
Fun on the hammock! (a daily entertainment)

Kevin's Day -
Kevin and Grandpa Keith drove to Spokane and back (7 hours round trip) to retrieve the Volkswagen Beetle parked at the Spokane airport.

When Megan went out to do her daily farm chores early Friday morning, a chick had already hatched. She wasn't expecting it to hatch until Monday. Because she had to make some last minute preparations for the chicks and was a bit worn out, we decided to go to the opening day of Cars 2 instead of hiking as planned. The kids loved the movie. It was super cute. Amyah was pretty cranky, but thankfully fell asleep for the last little bit.

We played lots and lots of games of Chinese Checkers. :)
The kids love Bandita!

Everyday the kids headed outside for some fun on the hammock!

Day 4: June 25, 2011
Farm Chores (a daily job...but the only day I snapped photos)
Lots of hatching chicks
Hiking with Grandma Megan

Kevin's Day -
Mowed the vineyard and weed-whacked for 6 hours around the house and other farm areas

The kids helped Megan with farm chores each morning. They fed the hens, fed Ducky, fed the roosters, fed the goats, fed the turkeys, fed the barn cats, and checked on the chicks. They loved helping Grandma. Amyah loved looking at all the animals.

After the jobs were finished, Grandma and the kids headed off on a hiking adventure. They packed a picnic lunch and were gone for 4 hours! They had a blast!

Day 5: June 26, 2011
Kittens & Croquet

We had a very relaxing day hanging around the house, playing with the super cute kitties, and playing croquet outside.

Day 6: June 27, 2011
Chinese Calligraphy class taught by Grandma Megan at the local library

Kevin's Day -
Kevin and Grandpa Keith went to town to buy feed and supplies.

Megan is a part-time librarian at the local library. The kids had a blast attending her Chinese Calligraphy class. They got to practice Chinese Calligraphy with water colors and paintbrushes. They had a great time and were really interested in learning the Chinese characters.

Amyah was really interested in the dogs. She kept crawling after them, she wasn't scared in any way, and she even enjoyed trying their dog food! haha

Day 7: June 28, 2011
The Drive Home! In separate cars!

We headed home in separate cars. My grandfather (who just passed away) owned a 2001 Toyota Camry. He purchased it barely used and only added about 15,000 miles. We gained possession of the car with 55,000 miles. It was exactly what we needed! It was worth driving home in a separate car to become a 2-car family again. Admittedly, I only had Susie in the car with me. Other than the long drive, I had an easy time. Kevin had Tyler and Amyah in his car. He needed Tyler to help take care of Amyah. It never felt so good to arrive home. The side effects of driving a car for 14 hours are much stronger than the side effects of being a passenger. I was so dizzy and could barely sleep all night long.

We had such a good time at the farm. It always feels so good to take a break from reality...free from cell phones...with the soothing sound of the river...I wish I could go back!

Wish I could have been there! Also, I had no idea Megan knew how to write Chinese characters! Let alone in caligraphy....I think she's been holding back on us!

I am seriously envious of this trip! Your kids look like they are in heaven! It reminds me so much of all the fun we had growing up visiting my grandparents on the ranch and I wish my boys could do something like this.
