A Visit from Grandma & Grandpa!

August 31st - September 5, 2011

Kevin's parents came for a visit over Labor Day weekend to see us after we were a bit more settled in to our new house. It was really nice to see them and show them around.

The Schedule of Events:

Wednesday:

  • Grandpa Mark and Grandma Janae arrived at our place around 9 pm. Tyler was, of course, still awake so he hung out a bit before heading off to bed.
Thursday:
  • Grandma and Grandpa walked with us to take Susie to school after lunch. Everyone was able to appreciate the lovely heat I endure each afternoon. One month of school has passed and I'm still drenched with sweat by the time I get home each day. :)
  • Tyler came home from school with a sore throat and fever. What else but Strep Throat? He always seems to get it at the most opportune moments.
  • Grandma and Grandpa treated us to Dairy Queen Blizzards for dessert.
  • The adults watched The Social Network after the kiddos were in bed.
Friday:
  • Tyler was still contagious, so no school today. We kept Susie home as well. Kevin headed to work, and I took the kids and grandparents to the Lego store so Tyler could buy something with his well-earned "a penny a page" money from the summer.
  • Later that afternoon, we met Kevin at Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall. We ate out at the Cheesecake Factory and brought a slice of cheesecake home for dessert. Yum!
  • The adults watched Limitless after the kiddos were in bed.
Saturday:
  • Grandma Janae and Grandpa Mark took the kids to the Home Depot kids' workshop. They made ESPN Game Day white boards to keep track of all the important football scores.
  • We prepared some party foods and invited some cousins (Kristi & Derek, Nathan) over to watch the BYU vs Ole Miss football game. The Cougs won! 14-13.
  • The adults watched Soul Surfer after the kiddos were in bed.
Sunday:
  • 3 hours of church, afternoon naps, dinner, dessert, and a walk to the duck ponds.
  • The adults watched Flash of Genius after the kiddos were in bed.
Monday:
  • Cabela's - fish aquariums, animal displays, and a couple rounds of target shooting.
  • Drove around the University of Phoenix Cardinals Stadium.
  • Walked through some shops at Westgate City Center.
  • Grandma and the kids created a book, "Oh The Things You Can Think!" (inspired by Dr. Suess)
  • Grandma and Grandpa left for the airport around 4 pm.

Love Tyler's squinty aiming face!
Amyah loved the animals. I'm assuming she thought they were alive.
