Tyler's Baptism

August 4, 2012

Tyler was baptized on August 4, the weekend after we returned home from Utah.  Grandpa Mark, Grandma Janae, and Craig (who was still visiting them in Utah) drove down for the important event.  Rachael, Jonathan, and Lynnlee came into town as well.  It was so much fun to have so many visitors in town!

In our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, children get baptized when they turn eight years old.  We believe they do not reach the age of accountability until they are eight years old and are incapable of sin until that age.  Little children are redeemed through the mercy of Jesus Christ.

Tyler was looking forward to his baptism for a while.  It was a wonderful day!  We had a lot of family who live in the area attend the baptism as well.

This is who was in attendance from our family:
Our family (Kevin, Amy, Tyler, Susie, & Amyah)
Grandpa Mark & Grandma Janae
Craig
Jonathan, Rachael, & Lynnlee
Derek, Kristi, & Jackson
Nathan
Aunt Terry
Scott, Kelli, Landon, & Alivia
JR

Kevin performed the baptism and the confirmation.  Grandpa Mark and Uncle Craig acted as witnesses for the baptism.  And, all the men stood in the circle during the confirmation.

While Tyler and Kevin were getting dressed after the baptism, everyone in attendance wrote a little note to Tyler.  The primary president presented Tyler with a little book with all the notes tucked inside.  Tyler loves his book!  He actually keeps it on his bed and sleeps next to it!

I gave a talk on the Holy Ghost.  I compared the Holy Ghost to several objects...
  • a map (gives direction)
  • a sun (there is only one, but many can feel its warmth)
  • a blanket (it comforts you)
  • a heart (we feel the Holy Ghost in our hearts)
  • the scriptures (we can gain a testimony of the scriptures through the Holy Ghost)
  • a flashlight (it lights your way)
The entire baptism service was over in less than an hour.  We invited everyone to our house for cake and ice cream afterwards.  It was fun to catch up with family we hadn't seen in a while.  And, it was especially fun to have so much family around to share Tyler's special baptism day with us.

Later in the evening, we went to dinner with Kevin's immediate family (and Nathan!).  We ate at one of Tyler's favorite restaurants...The Claimjumper.  It was delicious!

Everybody needed a picture with Tyler before his baptism...

Kevin's immediate family who came for the big day!

Tyler and the cake he chose from Costco.  I forgot to take a picture before the first piece was cut!

Late in the afternoon, we were all watching the Olympics (it was water polo).  Craig asked Susie if he could use her as a pillow.  No one noticed she had fallen asleep while performing her pillow duty!  She was a tired girl!  And, water polo was obviously not very exciting for her to watch.

It was such a fun weekend!  It made us very happy we had so many loved ones around to celebrate Tyler's baptism. :)
