Talking Back

Tyler has suddenly learned to “talk back” to us. It is horrible and very difficult to put an end to because he uses the phrases that we say. If I tell him to “stop that right now” he repeats me in a very mean voice and says, “No! You stop that right now!”
Some of Tyler’s sayings are:
“Don’t be mad at me!”
“Don’t say that word!”
“Be nice!”
“Stop Mom!”
“Right now!”

I guess he somewhat balances out his mean talking when he becomes the very polite little boy that he often can be. He has started saying, “Excuse me” after he sneezes. And he always remembers to say please and thank you (especially when he pretend plays with his toys…they are always saying please and thank you to each other).

Oh ya. Tyler has also become a very bossy little boy. I think he is, unfortunately, going to be just like me as a little kid. I couldn’t stand it when I was following the rules and someone else wasn’t. I would always tell people what was the right thing to do. While visiting with Hallie last week, he was constantly telling her what to do. She is a year younger than him so of course she isn’t as good at following instructions. He was constantly repeating (or should I say yelling) instructions for Hallie to follow. He didn’t like when he was doing what he was told and she wasn’t.

...that does sound like you. I can't wait for "you're not the boss of me" or "you aren't listening to me" or "I hate everybody, I hate (add name here), and () and()...you get the idea. That's hillarious.

This really just makes me smile...I know you don't love having Tyler talk back, but how funny that he does and he uses the very phrases on you that you say to him.
