My kids are growing up and it is really getting to me. It has been difficult for me to let Tyler leave for all day school! He is gone almost 8 hours! School has been rough on me. I have to set an alarm clock to wake up every morning by 6:55 in order to get Tyler out of the house by 7:40. Our breakfasts no longer consist of pancakes, eggs, homemade oatmeal, etc. I cannot stand to wake up a moment earlier to prepare anything other than toast, cereal, frozen waffles, or yogurt. Then, I don't see Tyler until 3:20 when he gets home from school. I pick him up (we're part of a carpool) on Mondays and Wednesdays. It all felt very overwhelming at first. I still feel like I don't get enough "Tyler" time in the day. I feel like my kids don't get much time to play together during the week. We finally decided to switch bedtime to 8 instead of 7 so that we could have more family time. Since making that switch, I've felt so much better about the amount of time I have with my kids. I cannot believe Tyler is under the influence of other people for more hours in the day than he is under my influence. It's kind of scary! Tyler's really growing up. I think he also had a hard time adjusting to all day school. His school ability groups the kids for math and reading and he goes to 2nd grade levels for both. He is learning so much! He is an amazing reader! It's too bad we don't have access to a public library (without paying a non-citizen fee to another city's library) because we don't have any books Tyler is interested in reading. We've read them all too many times. We've even borrowed about 100 books from Grandma and Grandpa and he's still bored of them.
School and strep throat...
Since starting school, Tyler has had 3 rounds of strep throat. As soon as he comes off the antibiotic, he gets the symptoms of strep throat a few days later. He's missed a lot of school due to sickness. We are headed to the ENT (ear, nose, and throat) doctor tomorrow to take a better look at his tonsils, determine if they are still infected with strep throat, and decide whether or not he needs his tonsils taken out. I've also been lucky enough to get strep after one of his bouts with it. I'll keep you posted on the future of Tyler's tonsils...
