Happy 1st Birthday Sweet Amyah!

May 10, 2011

Amyah's 1st birthday has brought back so many memories from a year ago... the end of my pregnancy, a week of contractions and no sleep, an exciting labor and delivery, and 10 difficult days in the NICU. Even still (11 days after her 1st b-day), I cannot help reminiscing what I was doing each day a year ago. We love our cute little sister!

I decided to make marshmallow fondant, cover my cake with it, and mold the cake topper out of it. This was my first time making fondant and really working with it. My cake was far from perfection. However, I was happy with the results. I decided to make a cat for the top at the last minute. Amyah is very interested in our backyard cat, Felix. She points and says, "kee, kee, kee," whenever she sees him out the back window. We love to see her excitement for him! It is so sweet! The cake turned out pretty much exactly like I hoped (except for the small craters all through the fondant... oh well).

Susie, Amyah, and I made a quick trip to the grocery store early in the day. While I was there, I remembered that our grocery store gives free balloons to kids. Perfect! You can't really choose colors unless there are not any filled balloons. There was already a pink balloon and a red balloon, so that's what we ended up bringing home. Amyah loved the balloons! I decided I had to take some pictures of her with them in the backyard. She actually wasn't too happy during our pictures. The pressure washer was being used at the same moment, and she was really agitated by the loud noise. However, I was able to get a few cute pictures. I love them! They are a fun way to remember her 1st birthday!

We ate bow tie pasta with creamy pesto sauce for dinner. Amyah loved the meal, which isn't always the case, so it ended up being a great choice for a birthday dinner. Rachael and Jonathan actually left early in the morning from California to be home in time for Amyah's birthday celebration. It was so thoughtful of them. We loved having all our family around to celebrate.

We gave Amyah an activity table. Grandpa Keith and Grandma Megan gave her a Howdy Cow. So cute! She's still a little too small and a bit unsure of it. But, I know she will love it as she grows into it. The older kids can't stop hopping around on it!

We gave Amyah the kitty (marshmallow fondant) cake topper. She loved it! It was very comical to watch her eat it. Extremely ravenous, in fact. Almost like a cat devouring a mouse. But, she was a baby devouring a tiny cat. She had, by far, the best reaction in comparison to her older siblings when they ate their 1st birthday cake. When the cat started getting gooey and gross, we took it away. She screamed! Cute girl. She's gotten quite spunky in the last couple of months.

Happy Birthday Baby Amyah! Don't grow up too fast!

Ryan and I just read through all of these and loved it! We can't believe how different everyone looks! Also, it was hilarious enlarging the pictures of the kids on Amyah's birthday to see the close-ups of their expressions. We miss you all! Oh, and we got Tyler and Susie's pictures today and LOVED them. Now I have something to hang in my office at work. :) We'll have to call or skype with them soon and let them know.
